Condenser mic capsule — cardioid-only mod.
Multi-pattern capsule with a bad diaphragm path. We isolated the fault, reversed the capsule, and locked the mic to cardioid so it could stay in service.

Symptom
Multi-pattern condenser capsule work — the dual-diaphragm / pattern path was not behaving. Rather than scrap a still-useful mic, the goal was a honest, stable cardioid response.
Diagnosis
Inspection pointed to a faulty diaphragm side on the capsule assembly. Continuing to run the original multi-pattern wiring would leave an unreliable pattern switch and a compromised capsule.
Repair
The faulty diaphragm connection was disconnected. The capsule was reversed and the assembly was set up as cardioid only — pattern icons on the switch base still show the original omni / cardioid / figure-8 labeling, but the mic now operates as a fixed cardioid tool.
Testing
Cardioid operation verified on the bench after the mod. The mic leaves as a single-pattern unit — documented as such so there's no mystery about what the switch will and won't do.
Result
A usable studio microphone instead of a parts donor. Fixed cardioid, fault isolated, paperwork and photos kept with the job.
